Forest School

Each term new topics are covered such as making music, art, and developing shelters from small animal shelters to natural and man-made shelters for ourselves.

In the school pond, various groups have been clearing the fallen leaves and overgrown grass. We have encountered frogs, newts and we have watched frog spawn turn into tadpoles.

Our Forest School sessions enable the pupils to work both in groups and individually on planned tasks, but it also gives time for them to explore and develop their own individual interests in the outdoor environment.

We are really looking forward to how our new willow arches are going to grow and develop at the entrance to the forest school area.

Swimming 

Residential Experiences

We believe that children should receive a full and balanced educational experience that allows them to experience a wide range of activities and environments. To support this we offer two residential visits during Key Stage 2.

In Year 4 or 5, we take the children on a walk from Much Wenlock back to Church Stretton, sleeping overnight at Wilderhope Youth Hostel, a beautiful Tudor house. Along the way we stop to hunt for fossils on the Wenlock Edge, build shelters and follow the Jack Mytton Way.

Building on this experience, Year Sixes are given the opportunity to take part in a week long residential visit to Arthog Outdoor Education Centre. Here they can experience and challenge themselves, taking part in a wide range of outdoor and team building activities, led by fully qualified and experienced instructors. These include mountain walking, canoeing, rock climbing, raft building, night walks, orienteering and even surfing, if the weather conditions allow.

These trips are often the highlight of a child's time at St.Lawrence, being something they recall fondly for years to come.

Music

We have a very strong tradition of music throughout St Lawrence School where children of all ages and abilities can enjoy singing, playing and performing. Alongside a rich and varied musical curriculum children participate in unique musical events such as 'Hymns on the Hill', 'Carols in the Town Square' and productions including 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and the 'Mary Poppins'.

Our popular school singing club regularly takes an active part in the life of the local community, singing at local care homes, church services or participating in town events.

We are fortunate that we have many inspirational teachers and volunteers who are able to encourage children, building their confidence and self-esteem through music. In addition, the School works in partnership with Shropshire Music Service, giving a wide range of opportunities to learn a musical instrument in school. 

Sports

At St Lawrence, we take part in a wide range of competitive and recreational sport. We are members of the South Shropshire Sports Partnership and participate in a variety of sporting events arranged with other schools throughout the year.

This ranges from KS1 festival of sports, where children are introduced to activities such as invasion games or athletic activities, to inter-school competitions in sports ranging from orienteering to rounders, athletics to basketball to name but a few.

In addition to this, we also compete annually at a variety of cross-country races, the South Shropshire swimming gala, Shropshire FA football competitions and County School Games competitions.

In school, we hold an annual sports day which consists of athletic events for KS2 in the morning and is then followed by the whole school taking part in a range of games and activities in the afternoon. Children are split into 4 house teams and compete for the Sports Day trophy.

Clubs

We are proud to offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs which are run by a variety of members of staff. Activities provided over the last few years range from computer, football, reading, gardening, singing, music, art, archaeology, cross country, cricket, basketball, tennis, drama, dance, cartoon and animation clubs.

Clubs can be booked via Squid, our online payment system. There is a small charge to help cover the cost of materials.
